The Viliame Toma coached- Nadi side denied Labasa the crucial three points as they drew 1-1 in the Vodafone Premier League clash at Prince Charles Park, Nadi last night.

What happened: Reliable defender Ilimotama Jese was the toast of the Nadi side when he rifled a 30-metre sizzler that found the back of the net in the 77th minute.

The Babasiga Lions only had themselves to blame after they had taken a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute. The goal came from an Anish Khem cross that was headed in by veteran defender Taniela Waqa. The goal caught Nadi by surprise as they fought back trying to find the equaliser.

Halftime: Labasa 1–0 Nadi.

In the second spell veteran Nadi striker Napolioni Qasevakatini was introduced into the game as he replaced Mosese Balenagaga who struggled on the flanks. Labasa midfielder Edwin Shayam also came in for Ilaisa Nayasi but was kept at bay by the solid Nadi defence.

Big play: Jese was in top form as he defended well and moved into an attacking role later in the game.

Star turn: Waqa and Khem read the game well as they time and again came close to scoring.

Comments: Nadi FA president, Javed Ahmed said:”It was a good fight back by the team. The first goal did put us off but the boys did played well.”

Labasa coach Gurjit Singh said: “It’s always tough to play Nadi at their home turf but it was an important match. We want to qualify for the OFC Champions League. We missed a few players and they should be back in the next game against Lautoka.”
