Province Focuses On Agriculture Says Chairperson

Naitasiri is more focused on the agriculture sector, so says Naitasiri Provincial Council chairperson Alifereti Nabulivou.
Mr Nabulivou made the comment during the first 2017 provincial meeting at Nausori on Friday.
“Although Government has already announced the 2017-2018 Budget we are still looking forward to see what the Agriculture Ministry has allocated in projects such as ginger, banana, cassava and yaqona,” Mr Nabulivou said.
“These areas were funds are already allocated and with the assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture, we hope that they will show us what we can benefit from in-terms of subsistence commercial farming,” he said.
Mr Nabulivou said the different districts in Naitasiri had their own development plans as well as the villages and the province.
He said there were some positive outcomes from the provincial meet and he was encouraging cluster groups to be formed in the village and district levels in order to have their agriculture projects done to suit the people.
He confirmed that the next provincial meet will be in December.
Meanwhile, the one day meeting saw district representatives speaking on water, roads and the need to have more assistance from the Government.
Projects presented by the Naitasiri Provincal office include:
Public Sector Investment Projects (PSIP) 2017-2018 include the Wainua Government Station, Vunidawa Government Station new duplex quarters, Tada Water project, Sawanikula Tubarua Road, Nakorosule- Nawaisomo Road and Naganivalu Crossing;
2016/2017 Capital Programme Crop extension: export promotion programme cost $33,385.80. For the yaqona project and two dalo projects in Lomaivuna and Nabena;
Food security programme of $34,106.92 for two pineapple projects at Natavea and Waimalumalumu settlement Waidina also for one boat project for Navolau Youth; and
Establishment of cluster groups including tausala for dalo farming, hooker for dalo, Nabukunivatu for yaqona and Naivucini for yaqona and Baulevu for rootcrops and vegetables.
