Respect and care for our women and girls was the message echoed to cadets of Montfort Boys Town in Veisari yesterday.

Chief Guest and Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto, told the cadets that the training instilled virtues like discipline, courage, teamwork and respect – respect for our women and girls.

“At this young stage of your life, you should make a commitment that you will grow up to be young man who will respect and protect women and children,” Rear Admiral Naupoto said.

“Your strong hand will be stretched out, not to harm, but to help our women and children.

“These qualities are good for you now and also good for you in the future and throughout your life.”

Turning to the parents, Rear Admiral Naupoto said their children, through the passing-out parade, offered them a glimpse of their children’s talents and potential, and they should be proud of their achievements.

“We should allow them to explore more of themselves and encourage them to develop the talents and skills they find in their process of self-discovery,” he said.

Rear Admiral Naupoto also told the students that cadet training was not meant to turn them into soldiers, even though some of them might choose that as a career later in life.

He also urged the students to give their school time their utmost best. All 120 students took part in the six weeks cadet training.
