St Vincent College wil take part in their first Vodafone Secondary Schools Under-19 Football Championship on August 13-16 at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

The Tailevu School reached the final of the   Tailevu/Nasinu/Navua Zone competition losing to Vashist Muni College 1-0.

Assistant principal/coach Hirdesh Prasad applauded the performance of the players.

“We set up football team to allow the students to play another sport apart from rugby,”Prasad said.

“And qualifying for such a prestigious competition means a lot to the students and the school.

“Getting students involved in sport moulds them to becoming better persons. They learn discipline and have a sense of belonging.”

Prasad said they are not too worried about going up against other schools as it will be a learning experience for them.

“For us, we are just happy and proud to go out there and represent Tailevu. The players are excited about the opportunity,” he said,

“We know we will be playing against schools who have been .playing football for a while but that will not stop us from putting up a fight.

“We are going into this tournament to compete and if we win then that would be a bonus but the players will be going in to learn and gain experience.”
