A waste care management company caught on camera  dumping rubbish illegally at Nabou, Nadroga has launched a clean-up campaign.

About 20 staff members of Waste Clear (Fiji) Limited including their families not only picked up rubbish but also cleared up huge piles of litter dumped by the public at various spots along the Nabou corridor on Saturday.

Director Sanjeev Chand said this was the input from their staff in compliance with the Fijian Government view on Climate Change.

“This is not the response to the media attention we received,” Mr Chand said.

“We let our action speak louder than our words,” he said.

“Yes, there was a mistake done by an employee but it was not the business.”

Apart from picking up rubbish the company also used their front loader compactor trucks, which have 32 cubic metres of loading space to clear out heaps of rubbish along the highway.

Mr Chand added that in future they will team up with various communities to work with the Government’s undertaking of a cleaner environment.

He said they would be liaising with the municipality where their businesses were operating in.

“This is the first part of it as we embark to take bigger challenges. Next is to call on the public to help in the fight at the same note we will be assisting with the use of our resources,” he said.

Mr Chand thanked the Police department for the traffic management during their clean-up campaign.
