A win against Tonga today could send the Vodafone Fijian football team into the semifinal of the OFC U16 Women’s Championships in Samoa.

After thrashing American Samoa 4-1 on Friday, they will need to keep the momentum against the Tongans.

“The game against Tonga will be tough, especially looking at the quality of the squad they have,” Coach Marika Rodu said.

“They gave Cook Islands a tough game despite losing 3-1.

“We really need to dig deep, our girls understand the importance of winning the match as it may put us in through the semifinal.

“The girls have a chance to watch other matches and have seen the qualities of other teams so they understand that they need to take it up a notch in terms of performance.

“The first win have given the girls some motivation so we are hoping we will have a good outing.”

Fiji is currently leading the Pool B table.

Fiji will play Tonga at 1pm at J.S. Blatter Football Complex.
