The recent dry spell in the North is causing a hike in the price of fruits and vegetables at the Labasa Market.

34 year old Rakesh Chand who has been selling at the Labasa Market for the past 15 years said this had been the case for the past two month.

“The suppliers have upped the price for their products and market vendors are following suit,” Mr Chand said.

He said that while they always felt for the consumers, they too had family needs to meet.

“Most of the market vendors in the market are married with children and we need our profit to feed our family as well,”

He said he had three children, two in primary and one in secondary school.

However he said that the rise in prices had not affected the demand from the customers.
