Stall Owners Hope For Fine Hibiscus Weather

Stall owners at this year’s Vodafone Hibiscus Festival are hoping for fine weather.
Shakell Rahim, 32, of Lautoka who helps run his father’s business “Rahim Amusements & Confectionaries” says that they have been operating their business at the Hibiscus Festivals for more than 30 years.
Mr Rahim said they have made substantial profit over the years, and were hoping for bigger and better sales this year.
“We always run ferris wheels and sell candy floss, popcorn, snow cones, during the Hibiscus,” Mr Rahim said.
He said even though there had been a change in venue from Albert Park in Suva to the Vodafone Arena in Laucala Bay, he was hopeful that the fine weather would draw in more people.
He is concerned that there might not be enough space for other tenants.
Hibiscus Events Group executive chairperson, Hirdesh Prasad said there were no issues in regards to the spaces provided, and everything would be normal.
“Everybody is happy for the move and they love the change that was made,” he said.
Mr Prasad is inviting the public to come down to the Vodafone Arena for a fun filled week and with the family.
Mr Prasad adds that the installation of sinks and waste pipes which are part of this initiative would also be launched tomorrow by the Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport, Parveen Bala.
Over the years the weather has always been a contributing factor and the Hibiscus committee, business owners, and vendors are hoping that this does not hinder people from coming to this prestigious event.
The week-long festival is at the Suva Vodafone Arena from August 12 to 19.
