Giving false information is an offence: Abraham

Business operators caught providing public officers with false information will be brought to task.

This was emphasised by the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission chief executive officer Joel Abraham.

According to Mr Abraham, the Commission has noticed that some owners of goods and services have inflated their expenses and declared to the Commission’s public officers that they had made a loss.

“If you are making claims and you are trying to manipulate the data to suit whatever you are saying and you are doing it in efforts to mislead the Commission, that is an offence and we will take such people to task,” said Mr Abraham.

The Commission does not exist to take sides between the trader and consumer, but rather to ensure that the market is fair to both parties, he added.
