Herleen, The Patriotic Writer

Constructive criticism is good but negative ones that will destroy people’s hopes are no good for a developing nation.
That’s exactly how our student and regular contributor, Herleen Kumar, feels and sees things these days.
It prompted her to write her winning letter ‘Be patriotic’ to the Letters to the Editor.
This is the second time she has won and believes that the more she writes the more knowledgeable she has become through research and observation.
“I am becoming more experienced writing to the Fiji Sun daily,” the Year 13 and headgirl of Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College in Nadi said.
“This time my letter was about Being Patriotic.
“I have seen many people writing negative comments about Fiji on social media and these people are citizens of Fiji.
“I believe, every person should have a sense of pride in them for their country, but some people are so selfish about themselves, that they tend to rubbish the country.
“Rather than finding a solution about it, people are going around making intolerant comments about Fiji. It is sad to see that people are not proud of the country they belong.”
So far she has written approximately 139 letters since she was 16-years-old.
She thanked Fiji Sun for distributing free copies of the paper to her school daily as part of its newspapers in education project.
