The Telecom Fiji Limited staff members last night welcomed the news of a pay rise which the TFL board has approved.

This was officially announced at the Building Team 2020 Telecom Staff Awards Night at the Novotel Resort in Suva by the Attorney General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Chief guest Mr SayedKhaiyum said the pay rise was conducted through a job evaluation exercise followed by the approval of the board.

He said the increment was in excess of a million dollars that should be effective from next week and this was good news to TFL staff.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said this was the beginning of what the Fijian Government wanted, that was to promote and ensure that every staff got the right salary and the right base.

He said the right salary increase was also based on people’s level of performance.

He said TFL had its staff in the right base and so the assessments were carried out and based on comparisons with the market, but the idea was getting the right market structure, salary and going forward a performance management system was important.

Meanwhile, TFL chief executive Mothilal De Silva said the awards ceremony was launched last year to build and shape the next generation leaders of Telecom Fiji to take up the challenges of the coming decade thus placing emphasis on innovation and customer service excellence.

Mr De Silva said that TFL had progressed towards achieving their goals outlined in their three year business plan.

“We achieved another profitable year in 2016- 2017 recording a net profit before tax growth of nearly 40 per cent,” he said.
