Chand Too Strong

Navosa slugger Abhay Chand took out the main event of the Kiran Boxing Promotions programme at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka on Saturday night.
He was too strong in the super middleweight contest over Mathew Michael.
Referee Joeli Sauqaqa stopped the contest in the 3rd rd round when the Juju, Rotuma native hit the canvas for the third time.
“I am happy as this is my first time to win at Lawaqa after I lost to Joe Naleca by knockout in 2008,” he said.
“I thank my fans and I’m looking forward to challenge Opeti Tagi for the title once again.”
Michael was gracious in defeat.
“Congratulation to Abhay, I will have to go back to the drawing board,” he said.
In the main supporting bout Jese Ravudi Jr beat Lautoka’s Franco Frazer in the second round by technical knockout.
Ravudi Jnr also found the slippery canvas a disadvantage.
“My plan was to force him, his punch is not hard, but I respect him for taking up the challenge,” he said.
“There has been a lot of talk about Sebastian Singh. I am ready to fight him anytime.
“I thank my dad for his support and not forgetting our sponsors.”
