The 2018 Rewa Galaxy Kaji Rugby tournament will be bigger and better with the inclusion of western teams.

Fiji Primary Schools Kaji Rugby Association president Joji Seruiratu said it was important to bring all the districts together.

“This year we were planning to have just one tournament and bring all the teams from the west. But two weeks ago after all of the logistics were set up, we couldn’t bring teams from the west,” Seruiratu said.

“The western teams were given the go ahead by the Ministry of Education so hopefully next year we will be seeing western schools in the mix.

“The whole purpose of competitions like this is to get these Kaji together.

“This tournament started in 2002 by the late Rupeni Tamani and his aim was to develop rugby at this level.”

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said there was no need to have separate Kaji rugby competitions.

“At the moment, there is one Kaji rugby organisation in Suva and one in Nadi and to us this is not good,” O’Connor said.

“We will be working with the Ministry of Education and teachers to ensure that next year we will work together as one.”
