Complainant tells why she did not report alleged rape

A complainant of an alleged rape told the court yesterday that she hid the incident from being known because she did not want her father’s reputation to go down.

The accused, who is a taxi driver, is alleged to have raped the victim in November 2010.

She was 15-years-old at the time.

While giving evidence in trial, the victim said she knew the accused when he used to pick and drop her at home after school.

He was driving a taxi for the victim’s father.

On the day of the alleged incident the accused picked up the complainant from school and took her to a house where he invited her inside and offered her juice.

Sobbing openly in court the complainant said that she pleaded with the accused several times to take her home but he refused.

She said the accused threatened to ruin her family if she did not have sex with him.

“He grabbed my wrist and tried to drag me when I refused he pulled my hair really hard at that time I fell unconscious,” she said.

“When I regained consciousness he was on top of me and I was lying there naked, he was also lying on top of me naked. I tried to scream but he hit me in the head again, and I blacked out again.”

The victim said when she regained consciousness the second time she saw the accused standing beside the bed staring at her. The trial continues today.
