A Police taskforce has managed to recover the items that were stolen from three shops at Amrit Arcade in Labasa Town yesterday.

This was confirmed by Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro.

“There was a report that three shops were broken into on Monday night and a taskforce was set up,” Ms Naisoro said.

“After midday three men were arrested with full recoveries made. The three had allegedly stolen $50 cash and other assorted items from one shop. They had attempted to break into another shop but were unsuccessful.”

Amrit arcade owner Chandra Wati said: “Police knew very well this arcade is always open then why can’t Police patrol this way.

Ashwin Enterprises owner Sherin Chand said about $5000 worth of items were stolen: such as watches, rings, socks and sunglasses .

Shoe Shop owner Vinod Chand said he did not have any idea when this incident happened.

“I arrived this morning (Tuesday) and found out that three pairs of shoes, $20 cash and iPod has been stolen from my shop,” Mr Chand said.

Prasad Tec Owner Amritesh Krishneel said he was so surprised.

“This is the first time my shop has been broken into,” he said.

“My shop was in a mess and I found out that four hard-drives were missing and some cash was stolen.”

Ashwin Enterprises owner Sherin Chand, Prasad Tech owner Amitesh Krishneel, Shoe Shop owner Vinod Chand and Amrit Arcade owner Chandra Wati complained that the Police officers arrived half an hour late, after their phone call, even though the Labasa market Police post is near the arcade.

“With regard to the delay in attending to the case, the Divisional Police Commander North is looking into the matter to deal with the issue of communication within,” Ms Naisoro confirmed.
