Murder Accused Pleads Guilty

Counsels in a murder case scheduled for trial yesterday were caught by surprise when the accused pleaded guilty.

Livai Lino pleaded guilty to murder in the presence of the assessors.

The charges were read to him repeatedly in the iTaukei language to which he responded that he understood and admitted it.

On June 21, 2013 at about 3:30pm the accused stabbed Ashwin Roy Lal on his right chest in front of the Navakai Dealers Shop.

Lino used a silver kitchen knife to stab the deceased 42-year-old.

He was later arrested from Namotomoto Village in Nadi and interviewed by Police. The case will be called today for State counsel to provide the summary of facts of the case.
