Electoral Commission chairperson Suresh Chandra while opening the new Fijian Elections Office Voter Service Centre in Labasa yesterday has reaffirmed that preparations for the 2018 General Elections are on track.

“With the opening of these offices, we will be looking forward to the opening of an office in Nadi in due course,” Mr Chandra said.

“This is a significant milestone as we approach the 2018 General Election,” he said.

The Fijian Elections Office has its divisional office in Labasa.

“Let me clarify that it is not only for the people from the North who can access this services but Fijians from anywhere in the country,” he said.

“If they are in this area and want to access voter services then they can come to this office.

We want Fijians of the voting age to exercise their voting rights and be part of the next general election.

“The Voter Services Coordinator for the country is Aisake Saukawa and I would like to thank him and his team for their efforts in bringing services to the people and I hope they continue to strive in their efforts.”

The first person to access the service was a 51-year-old man of Labasa, Saiyed Hussein.

“I feel very happy not only to be the first person to have access to the information and service but knowing that this office would bring benefit to all Northerners,” Mr Hussein said.

“The opening of the office shows that Government has not forgotten the people of the North and we are thankful for this gesture.”
