Victim told witness about alleged rape

A prosecution witness in an alleged Kadavu rape case told the Suva High Court yesterday that the victim related the incident to her during a stroll in the village.

The witness of State prosecutor Kimberly Semisi told the judge Justice Kunaratnam Ranasinghe the victim told her that her father had forced her to have sex with him.

She said the accused lived in an isolated place away from the village and their house was in a forest area.

The accused is alleged to have raped his 20-year-old daughter between March and April in 2014.

The father has denied the charges.

The trial continues at 8:45am today.

Alleged Nadi death driver remanded

A man allegedly driving the car involved in a fatal accident has been remanded in custody.

Kavitesh Jeshneel Prakash, 25, appeared at the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death. No plea was taken. He has been remanded in custody at the Natabua Correction Centre in Lautoka.

He appeared before Magistrate Peni Dalituicama.

The accused was represented by legal aid lawyer, Paula Gade.

Mr Gade made a bail application before the court.

He said they were yet to receive the disclosures.

Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Francis Bale objected to bail saying it was a serious offence and the accused lived close to the victim’s family.

She said the accused should be remanded in custody for his own safety.

The accused was denied bail and will reappear at the Nadi Magistrate Court on August 18.
