Labasa Main Street Undergoes Roadwork

Night roadwork has started in Labasa town and members of the public are requested to take extra precaution when approaching the area.

The work is being carried out by Fulton Hogan Hiways, a company contracted by the Fiji Roads Authority to improve road access across the Central, Northern and Eastern divisions.

New Fulton Hogan Hiways Stabilising and Construction crew supervisor in the North George Hughes, is urging members of the public to follow directions and signs given by their traffic management team as heavy machineries will be present and used on the worksite.

“The safety of pedestrians, motorists, including our crew is very important to us,” said Mr Hughes.

Work is carried out between Nakorotari Road junction and Labasa Bridge.

The work involves removing of old seal, pre-hoeing, adding cement powder, compaction, and chip sealing before a new seal is laid.

Mr Hughes is urging members of the public to expect delays and to factor extra time in their night travel if they are to drive through Labasa Town.

Fulton Hogan Construction Manager North, Scott Wilkinson, says that work is due to be completed next week but could be delayed by the weather.

“The crew are currently doing night shift repairing the main street of Labasa; when they have completed that around mid-week next week they will move on to Namoli Road rehabilitation,” he said.

Labasa resident Niumai Marama has welcomed the road works saying that once completed, the work is expected to bring additional relief to road users.
