First-Timers Thrive At Festival

If you’re looking for traditional hand- craft items for a wedding, birthday or any special occasion then the Fiji Arts Council tent on this last day of the Vodafone Hibiscus Festival is the one to visit.
The table of 61-year-old Sereana Tuimoro is one you can’t miss when visiting the tent despite the fact that she is selling at the festival for the very first time.
Ms Tuimoro came all the way from Vunidawa village in Serea, Naitasiri to be part of the event.
“I’ve been selling handcraft items for the past four years,” she said.
Ms Tuimoro was selling fans, bags, and mats, and this has enabled her to financially support her family since her husband passed away.
Ms Tuimoro said business has been going well since the opening of the festival last Saturday.
“I only sell from the village, taking orders and I’m also part of the Vunidawa Women’s Club.”
She looks forward to taking part in the festival next year.
Like Ms Tuimono, Pasemaca Driu is also a first timer at the festival.
Ms Driu was selling cushion covers, recycle purses, tablecloths and patched quilt.
She has been doing this for the past 20 years.
“I sell most of my items from home in Sawakasa, Tailevu and people make orders as well.”
Ms Driu said this has enabled her to support her family of four children over the years.
“I’m happy to be part of this year’s festival and I look forward to taking part again next year,” she added.
KALOKOLEVU WOMEN’S CLUB
If you’re looking for a bite at the last day of the Vodafone Hibiscus Festival then the Kalokolevu Women’s Club table under the South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) tent is the place to be.
Club spokesperson, Susana Silikiwai said it’s the first time they’re selling at the festival.
“We are selling lovo packs, roti parcels, cakes, juice, tea, and vegetables at very affordable prices,” she said.
“Business has been going well as we are taking orders. We are aiming to make a profit after the festival.”
Ms Silikiwai said there are 35 members of the club.
She said they’re grateful to SPBD for the support of providing them a table during the festival and they hope to come back next year.
The Vodafone Hibiscus Festival is held at the Vodafone Arena, Suva and ends today.
