RFMF Band Centennial Celebrations Launched

 

The Royal Fiji Military Forces band last night officially launched their 100th year anniversary celebration.

Speaking at the event the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto acknowledged the year the Band has been entertaining the military and performed in Fiji.

He said the RFMF has been carrying a true legacy and has created a milestone achievement.

Commander Naupoto says the band has always brought smiles to every Fijian and to everyone they entertain.

 

Background

Meanwhile, Commander Naupoto said the Fiji Defence Forces was established during World War 1 at a time the Band was known as the Suva Town Band.

Later after the Fiji Defence Force Band was established in 1917, it became an integral part of the riffle company and carried out normal infantry training.

In 1941 it became the Band of the 1st Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment and saw active service in the Solomon Islands.

The RFMF band was joined by the Royal Fiji Navy, the Fiji Police Band and National Youth band entertaining the family’s and guests of the RFMF.
