Top Student Eyes Better Opportunity

Topped class after gaining exceptional grades in Trade Certificate in Fitting and Machining
In the hopes of attaining a managerial position in his field one day, Shaneel Pavindra Prasad is eager to continue his studies.
Among the 104 apprenticeship graduates, Mr Prasad was awarded the overall best apprentice of the year 2017 trophy on Friday at the Fiji National University (FNU), National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC) graduation.
Mr Prasad graduated with a Trade Certificate in Fitting and Machining at the Novotel Suva Lami Bay Convention Centre.
His study was sponsored by his employer, Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) for the duration of his studies at the NTPC under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme.
“I am grateful to my employer for funding this study and these five years was a combination of hard work, dedication, commitment and obedience for me,” Mr Prasad said.
“So far I have worked as an apprentice with the FSC and after this graduation I am hoping to become a technician,” he said.
“I will continue my study and who knows I might be promoted to an engineer one day with FSC.”
In addition to his win, NTPC has awarded Mr Prasad a one week industrial visit to New Zealand with all expenses paid for.
Mr Prasad said he was looking forward to the trip.
While addressing the graduates, Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Jone Usamate highlighted that there was a need for skilled apprentices in Fiji.
Mr Usumate commended the efforts of the newly graduated apprentices.
