Kinton Global Enterprises and Raka 7s $51,000 tournament organisers launched the inaugural event yesterday in Suva.

The Raka 7s tournament will be held on November 24-25 at the ANZ Stadium.

The two-day tournament is sanctioned by the Fiji Rugby Union.

Tournament director Ropate Kauvesi was delighted to launch what is being described as the biggest 7s tournament in the country.

“Raka 7s embodies the very heartbeat of Fiji in providing an exciting competition platform for our athletes,” Kauvesi said.

“The competition will involve 80 teams, – 64 men and 16 women.

“The total prize-money is $51,000, whereby the men’s Cup winner gets $25,000 and the winner for women’s category gets $5000.

“However, the breakdown of the cash prizes for other finalists will be announced later.

“Tickets will be available from October 20, 2017 and the registration for men is $500 and $300 for women. Entries close on October 31.

“The two days of rugby competition will see some of top clubs compete for the $51,000 prize-money.

The compelling on-field action will be supplemented by a programme of entertainment for avid sports fans.

“We also delighted to confirm expressions of interest from the Solomon Islands and our local clubs include Yamacia, Uluinakau, Police, Tokatoka Westfield Barbarians, McDonald’s Saunaka, Presdio Davetalevu, Raiwaqa, Kinoya Sea Eagles, Vatukarasa, Naselesele and Cross Victory.

“In the women’s division we have Striders, Nadi Blazers, Waitasere Tailevu, Mystic Knights, and Marist Seahawks.

“The two days event will also be declared “PLASTIC FREE VENUE” to pay homage to Fiji’s commitment to our environment.”
