Corned beef theft accused bailed

A Lami man appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court on Friday charged with stealing a tin of corned beef.

Peniamino Bete, 34, appeared before Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage.

On August 12 this year at about 11:45am the accused allegedly stole a tin of corned beef worth $3.87 from RB Patel Harbour Point Supermarket.

Police Prosecutor Josua Shaw did not object to bail.

Accordingly, Bete was released on bail and advised not to offend or interfere with Prosecution witnesses.

The case has been adjourned to October 4 for mention.

Alleged Kadavu rape charge amended to defilement

Prosecution in a case against a Kadavu man charged with rape applied to amend the charge to defilement in the Suva Magistrates Court.

Letia Tokalauvere, 26, appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili on Friday.

He is currently on bail.

On the charge of defilement of a young person between 13 and 16years of age, it is alleged that on December 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017 the accused had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl aged 15years.

Police Prosecutor Kalara Neisamu informed Magistrate Ratuvili that Tokalauvere’s plea is yet to be taken.

Defense counsel stated that they had no instructions from the accused in relation to his plea.

The case has been adjourned to September 4 for his plea to be heard.
