Big A-G Roadshow Starts Tomorrow
AttorneyGeneral Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

Teachers will have the opportunity to clear any misinformation on budget, contracts and pay increments from tomorrow when Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum begins a roadshow for civil servants.

The amount of misinformation regarding civil service reforms has prompted Mr Sayed-Khaiyum to start this nationwide consultation for all civil servants – beginning with teachers.

The latest misinformation has been fuelled by the Fijian Teachers Association and during their annual delegates conference discussions the president, Netani Druavesi, claimed that teachers who were on five-year contracts would not be able to get loans from banks.

This issue has already been clarified by heads of major banks in Fiji that contract terms was not a requirement by the banks when processing loan applications.

The first series of roadshow events will be held specifically for teachers, giving them the opportunity to get more information on the civil service reforms and understand how they can work with Government to make Fijian schools a better place to work and learn in.

The sessions will cover the transition process onto the new salary bands and how teachers can advance within the new remuneration structure.

This will be the chance for every teacher to ask questions and get real answers about what the Government’s civil service reforms means for their careers and the valuable contribution they make to our education sector.

Additional roadshows for nurses and other interested civil servants will be held next month.

The dates and venues will be announced soon.
