Fourty-two participants took part in the second quarter mile Pacific Energy Shell Lubricant drag race at the Nanuku Airstrip in Pacific Harbour yesterday.

Fiji Car Club president Raizal Hanif said the event was a success with a good turnout.

“It was a very successful event for us as we had 42 cars taking part,” Hanif said.

“We are pleased to have four women taking part and we expect more female participation in the future.

“Over 800 spectators came to watch the car race which was very pleasing to see.

“And apart from that we will also have a new winner, Lawrence Ah Sam who has won the event for the first time.

“However, Ravin Nath who is the defending champion lost out in the event needs to work hard on his car and retain his title.

“But as far as Lawrence is concerned we expect the best from him as he’s a seasoned racer and associated with this competition for a long time.

“We are targeting to host the next race next month.”
