The Fiji Women Lawyers Association (FWLA) scaled Mount Korobaba as a Climb-a-thon fundraiser for the Fiji Cancer Society.

Association secretary Namrata Singh said: “Business houses can use this Climb-a-thon as a platform to show their support towards this great cause as well as use this as a team building programme for our members.”

Over 100 participants registered as individuals for $20 each and a team of six registered for $100 and there were pledge forms provided for those who wished to donate extra money.

Ms Singh said that the funds raised would be distributed equally between the association and the Fiji Cancer Society.

“50 per cent of the funds raised will be donated to the Fiji Cancer Society and 50 per cent of the funds will be used by the FWLA to organise their future events,” Ms Singh said.

“One of our next events will be a mobile legal clinic.

“In the up-coming months FWLA members will be going out into the rural centres and providing legal advice and assistance to the general public.2 (1)

“This will be our way of giving back to the community.”

Ms Singh said the reason they chose Mount Korobaba for the event was because it was a challenging ascent but the view would be worth it at the top.

“There is a saying ‘difficult roads leads to a beautiful destination’ and Mt Korobaba is a perfect reflection of this,” she said.

“Climbing Mount Korobaba can be a challenge for many. However, the breathtaking view of the harbour, peninsula and the green mountains was totally worth the climb.”

Vice President Ana Tuiketei acknowledged the assistance of the Fiji Police Force who went above and beyond to assist all the participants.

“We had over 100 climbers and the Fiji Police Force had stationed themselves at various locations because of the challenges an average climber would face when scaling the terrain,” she said.

“Also we would like to thank St John Ambulance and Mr Lemeki Lenoa who were on stand-by the whole time.”

There were prizes also won by the participants.

  • Winning Team – Clash Royale
  • Runner up Team – Fijian Holdings Limited
  • FHL representative being presented certificate and prizes by executive members
  • Executive members Ana Tuiketei, Radhika Naidu and Namrata Singh with some of the hardworking police officers that provided assistance throughout the climb
  • First Female – Elena Randerath
  • Individual Winners – Rajeshwar Prasad with Ms Tuiketei and Ms Naidu
