The Junior Maine captained-Suva Under-14 football side suffered their first loss in the 42nd Vodafone Fiji Primary Schools Football Championship campaign at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

The defending champions were pipped 1-0 by a strong Lautoka side whose lone goal was scored by Sajid Khan in the second spell.

Earlier in the day, Suva hammered Seaqaqa 2-0 with goals scored by Shoil Kumar and Ronak Chand.

Suva U14 coach Raneel Prasad said they have learned a lot from their mistakes, which proved costly in the end.

“We’re still on track to qualify from our pool and the boys were really tested by Lautoka,” he said.
“We had a great start to our campaign when we overcome Seaqaqa in the first match and we’ve a match against Rakiraki tomorrow and that should be our pool decider.”

Suva are banking on defender Neerav Gounder and goalkeeper Daniel Young who has recovered from a niggling injury.

Meanwhile, Lautoka are chasing for the U14 title and they have remained unbeaten in their pool games.
Backed by their fans, the Baby Blues scored a 1-0 win over Rakiraki in their pool opener.

Hosts Nadi proved to be a worthy opponent as they came from behind to hammer Northwest Nadroga 3-1 before walloping Dreketi 3-0.

Nadi had the services of Mohammed Taqfeeq, Jonetani Saukuru, Josaia Vetawa, Lasarusa Vonu and Tomasi Ralolo.
