Four senior players in the Fijian Drua team are favourites for the captaincy role ahead of the 2017 Australian National Rugby Championship.

Telecom Fijian Warriors captain Mosese Voka, Eroni Vasiteri, John Stewart and Joeli Veitayaki are the four names mentioned to SUNsports by head coach Senirusi Seruvakula.

“These senior players are running things from the front as they’re leading the camp. It will be tough to pick the captain in the first round or the two co-captains,” Seruvakula said yesterday.

With the team announcement to be done on Friday, Seruvakula is impressed with the attitude of players.
He also confirmed there would be new faces in the team.

“We’re looking at players who have adapted well in our system, guys that have really put their hands up for selection. We will try and pick the best players in the first two rounds.

“There will new faces in the team along with the experienced players as we need to have a balance.” he added.

One area of concern, Seruvakula says, is on discipline.

“We need to maintain our discipline, how we train and how we want to play. To keep that momentum, those little things need to be freshen-up.

“We’ve been working on that, looking at areas like time, punctuality, running team meetings and also the senior player’s meeting.”

The Fijian Drua play Brisbane City at Ballymore Stadium on September 2 and Melbourne Rising in the second round on September 9 at Harlequins Oval in Melbourne.

The Fijians will then play their first home game in round three on September 16 when they host NSW Country Eagles at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

The other teams to make the trip to Fiji this year will be defending NRC champions Perth Spirit in Round 4 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva on September 23, Queensland Country in round eight on October 21 at Churchill Park, Lautoka and the Sydney Rays at the ANZ Stadium on October 28
