Fijian U20 take on challenge

The Vodafone Fijian Under-20 rugby side aim to top their pool in the 2017 World Rugby U20 Trophy championship in Uruguay.
Coach and former national rep Koli Sewabu said they are not underestimating any of their opponents.
The team had their last training session in Fiji yesterday under the watchful eyes of Sewabu, Kele Leawere and Vodafone Flying Fijians head coach John McKee at Churchill Park, Lautoka.
“We’re getting ready for the games ahead and just rounding off our preparations and simplifying the little things so we get it right,” Sewabu said.
“The next few days is really making sure that everyone knows their roles and what to do around the field and get a little more organised.
“I believe the future for Fiji rugby looks really good now.
“I have only been here for the past seven months and I can see there is a pathway there already so thumbs up to FRU for their vision and the great work being done by the High Performance Unit.”
Sewabu said with the U14, U16 and U18 squads also camping, it would make his job easier when they reach the U20 grade.
“We are quite diverse, we have a good set of forwards and our set pieces are much better. So if we maintain our dominance up in the forwards then we have some great exciting backs.”
Sewabu said some of the U20 backs played for the Fiji Warriors against Tonga A last week and this had done them a lot of good.
“There is experience because most of the boys have been playing together since the Oceania competition last year and there would be some good performances in the next two to three weeks.”
The U20 side meet Hong Kong in their first match on Tuesday, August 29 and followed by Uruguay on September 2 and Portugal on September 6.
