Government will pay the first loan repayment for the new Natogadravu subdivision roject as an incentive for iTaukei landowners.

The sub-division consists of 51 residential plots, one commercial space and an office space

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama while officiating at the event in Nuku, Tailevu, said the $437,400 repayment will be drawn from the the iTaukei Land Development allocation in the 2017-2018 National Budget.

“I’m very excited to announce that we will pay on your behalf the first repayment of $437,400 of the total $727,290 loan you’ve borrowed from the FDB to finance this project.

“We know this payment is outstanding and you are in default.”

Turaga na Tui Nabou Semi Matalau said it took three years to complete the subdivision work. They endured a lot of challenges along the way.

But it has paid off in the end and Mr Matalau is grateful to Government and stakeholders for their support in ensuring the success of their project.

He confirmed that all the spaces have been booked except for two residential plots.

The Yavusa of Natogadravu have a lot planned for their land.

“After this project, we are looking at expanding to constructing resorts.”

Looking to the future, Mr Matalau expects the area to be semi-urban in the next 5 to 10 years.

“This goes along with the Nausori Airport runway construction which will contribute to the tourism industry and help boost the economy.”

Mr Matalau encouraged iTaukei landowners to step up and think commercially.
