Nadera Panthers utility backline player Luke Nadurutalo turned down two overseas offers to focus on the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

The Korolevu, Navosa native is part of the Vodafone Fijian Residents side and eyes a spot in the RLWC in October.

“I’ve turned down the offer from Canterbury rugby team and Bath development team just to try and earn a spot in this RLWC.

“This is the moment we have been waiting for, there will only be three or four players from the Residents selected for the Bati squad and I’m giving my best to be in the team,” Nadurutalo said.

The former Queen Victoria School (QVS) student believes he made a right switch from rugby union to rugby league.

He started his sporting career at QVS before he scored a scholarship to study in Kelston Boys High School in New Zealand in 2011.

In 2012, the Navosa native played for the Southland rugby side and returned to Fiji in 2013, and played for Northland rugby and earned his spot in the Telecom Fijian Warriors team which toured Australia.

Following the tour Nadurutalo switched to rugby league when he was scouted by St Marys RLC in Sydney. He was part of the club from 2014 till last year when he returned home.

The 24-year old has set his target to pursue his dreams in rugby league.

“My aim is to play in the RLWC and secure a contract in any NRL clubs.

“I believe when we participate in RLWC many doors of opportunities open up,” he added.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Qionimacawa believes it would be a tough battle between him and other five- eighth players playing in the NRL.

“I play five-eighth position and I know the battle will be tough, but I will try my best and try to improve my decision-making on the field,” Qionimacawa said.

“It will be hard between those NRL players but I will do my best.”

The Rugby League World Cup will be held in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea between October 26 and December 2.
