The prices of food crops and vegetables at the Nadi Market vary and likewise the demand from customers.

For 28-year-old mother of four, Jessica Josephine Lata this also affects her daily sales.

Sometimes she said she could get $150 in a day and sometimes she got less than $100.

However she said this did not deter her from selling as she had to look after her children.

Her day at the market starts at five o’clock in the morning and ends at eight in the evening and this is her routine for the past five years.

Due to the increase in competition from farmers on Saturdays Ms Lata does not because she gets less profit on the day.

However, she said she was able to make with the loss on her Monday to Friday sales.

She sells pumpkin, beans, jack fruit, tomatoes, eggplants, round cabbage, mangoes, bananas, oranges, water melons etc.

Ms Lata buys from Sigatoka farmers as their prices are cheap.

From what she gets from the market, she is able to buy her children’s stationeries, buy family groceries and pay their electricity and water bills.

Her prices per bundle

Tomatoes-$2

Jack Fruit- $2

Chilly- $ 2

Bean- $3

Round cabbage- $4

Egg Plant – $3

Banana- $3
