Sedition Accused Did Not Like PM, A-G’s decisions

The eleventh State witness, Lorraini Seru, yesterday told the court that two accused in the Ra sedition trial did not like the decisions made by the Prime Minister and the Attorney-General.

She said Sereima Adidave Rokodi (3rd accused) and Waisea Duailima (5th accused) said this was the reason they signed the Uluda Declaration and the Petition to the International Court of Justice for the Ra Sovereign Christian State in 2014.

Ms Seru was the investigating, interviewing and witnessing officer for nine out of the 16 accused who were charged with sedition in relation to the alleged Ra Sovereign Christian State matter.

All accused persons are charged with two counts each of sedition except Nanise Kasami Nagusuca and Waisea Duailima who are charged with four counts each of sedition.

The sixteen accused are Ratu Epeli Niudamu, Sailasa Malani, Sereima Rokodi, Nanise Nagusuca, Waisea Duailima, Isikeli Kabakoro, Laisiasa Mocevakaca, Emosi Toga, Waisake Racaca, Samuela Ligabalavu, Mikaele Gonerara, Josefa Natau, Sulueti Waqalala, Ulaiyasi Rabua Tuivomo, Apolosi Qalilawa and Ilisapeci Natau.

Ms Seru told the court that both the accused had stated in their caution interview that they did not like decisions made by the Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. Both had also said that they did not like Mr Sayed-Khaiyum’s thesis on running the Government.

The two accused had also said that they did not like the decisions made by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama who was making decisions on the land, especially land sales, they claimed, without consulting the land owners.

CORRECTION
A Fiji Sun report yesterday incorrectly stated that the 16 people on sedition trial are now charged with a count each of sedition and a count each of inciting communal antagonism.

It should have said: “All accused persons are charged with two counts each of sedition except Nanise Kasami Nagusuca and Waisea Duailima who are charged with four counts each of sedition.” The error is regretted.
