Fiji Sun’s Shopper of the week, 34-year-old Alvin Kumar, originally from Sabeto, Nadi, talks on importance of choosing and buying quality products.

Mr Kumar had worked for Airport Fiji Limited, for the past 15 years, and had recently resigned after being given a permanent residency in Canada.

He lives with his parents and will be leaving next month.

Kumar does the shopping for the family and he shops at

Morris Hedstrom Supermarket at Nadi town.

Before going for shopping his mother prepares the list which will include tinned stuffs, noodles, milk, tea, chicken, toiletries, soap and washing detergent.

The reason he shops at Morris Hedstrom supermarket because the products sold were of good quality and the prices are affordable.

“The staffs are friendly, well spoken and very good in assisting in packing. The cashiers are also very efficient,” he said.

He said he had visited other supermarkets in Nadi but he liked the services at Morris Hedstrom supermarket.

He shops once a week and his shopping money is $150.

“I always try not to shop over our budget and whatever money left go to my savings.”

When asked on who will be looking after his parents when he leaves for Canada, he said he would be sending

money to them.

“They’re able to live alone.”

He said he would miss them very much.

 

His favorite dishes are Dhal and Curry Chicken that is prepared by his mother

 

Mr Kumar‘s Menu for Indian Traditional Curry:

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat
  2. Fry up onion and garlic until lightly browned
  3. Add Curry powder, cinnamon, paprika, bay leaf, ginger, sugar and salt.
  4. Continue stirring for 2 minutes.
  5. Add chicken pieces and tomato paste
  6. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes.
  7. Remove bay leaf, and stir in lemon juice and cayenne pepper.
  8. Simmer 5 more minutes.
