St John’s College won the Tuckers Fijian Secondary School Basketball Championship Under-19 final for the first time on Friday.

The Ovalau –based school defeated Marist Brothers High School 29-26 at Yat Sen Secondary School hall.

Coach Patrick Kamsoo said the players’ dedication and sacrifice has paid off.

“We entered this national competition with one motive and that is to win,”Kamsoo said.

“Marist gave us a good run but we kept to our game plan and the boys played their hearts out.

“I must acknowledge the young boys for their dedication and commitment during our preparation period.

“You don’t have to be in Suva to be a good basketball player.”

St Joseph’s Secondary defeated Suva Grammar 22-9 in the girls U15 final while Marist Brothers High School beat Latter Day Saints College 27-18 in the boys final.

In the U17 boys Yat Sen Secondary defeated Natabua High 23-16.
