Hockey prepare for Olympic qualifier

The Fijian Hockey Under-18 and U21 squad are preparing 2018 Youth Olympics on October 1-6 at Buenos Aires in Argentina.
Both teams will need to compete in the qualifiers that will be held in Papua New Guinea in February next year.
National coach, Hector Smith Snr anticipates a good outing for the side as he hopes to get much exposure for the young players.
“Since the beginning of this year, we have been preparing the players for the Youth Olympics in Argentina next year,” Smith said.
“We need to get the U18 sides preparing for the qualifiers in PNG in February before the Youth Olympics in Argentina.
“And the trials will be a great opportunity to expose our young players and some senior players are assisting them as well.
“At the moment there are a lot of young talents in the side and we have the U18 and U21 attending the trials.
“However, for the U21 side we trying to prepare them for the Fiji Hockey Invitational tournament which will be held in December at the National Hockey Centre.
“And we will be hosting the President’s Selection from New Zealand and the Country Hockey of Australia. We would like to expose the U21 side in that tournament.”
