Jone Raituva, 25, of Ra is one of the four scholarship recipients to study in the United Kingdom.

His scholarship comes under the Commonwealth Scholarship Programme which is fully funded by the British Government. Mr Raituva plans to further his education in Climate Change.

After receiving his award yesterday at the British High Commissioner’s residence in Suva, Mr Raituva said it was his first time to be awarded a scholarship.

He said he was grateful for the scholarship because it will enhance his knowledge and career in science.

He will be pursuing his Master’s in Climate Change development and policy at the University of Sussex.

“This programme will be a great boost for me and the country in terms of knowledge and capacity building as Fiji is chairing the Climate Change COP23 in Bonn, Germany in November.

“This is the first time I am travelling outside of Fiji which is empowering for me,” Mr Raituva said.

Meanwhile, National Advisor of Communicable Disease with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Dr Mike Kama, was also awarded a Chevening Scholarship to London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
