Filimoni Vosarogo believes Brisbane Broncos prop Korbin Sims would battle to be part of the Vodafone Fijian Bati team for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup in October.

The Fijian National Rugby League chairperson shared the this after Sims hurt his right forearm in Thursday’s 34-52 shocking loss to Semi Radradra’s Parramatta Eels at Suncorp Stadium. The injury  has ruled him out for the rest of the season. Medical staff originally hoped it was just a deep muscle bruise but Sims has been ruled out for six weeks.

“Well that’s usually the first assessment and of course we are hoping that it’s just a commentator’s feel of a player and game on the day.

“We will have to wait for the doctor’s confirmation whether he can put on the Fijian Bati jersey or not,” Vosarogo said.

“One thing about Korbin is,  he is a Fijian Bati, if he’s given a chance for the Bati jumper he will go for it.”

Scans yesterday revealed Sims has fractured his arm and will undergo surgery today.

Broncos high performance manager Jeremy Hickmans said it will be a six-week recovery for Sims, which means he could return in time to play for Fiji in the World Cup but his season with Brisbane is over.

Meanwhile, Vosarogo said they have reached 70 per cent of preparation stage towards RLWC even though time is not on their side. He believes they would complete preparation phase in time.

“We are hitting about 70 per cent of preparation at the moment, most of the preparation is done, boys are still in season and the coaches are viewing players’ playing footy.

“Our NRL players are playing superbly every week and even though we have time constraint and preparation but that can be solved,” Vosarogo added.
