Vets Perform Sterilisation In Mamanucas

Animals Fiji has partnered with Tokoriki Island Resort to provide veterinary services in the Mamanucas.
Co-founder and Managing Trustee Casey Quimby said last week Animals Fiji held spay and neuter clinic in Yanuya village.
“Dr Ines Sanchez Garcia, one of our staff veterinarians from our Animals Fiji Nadi clinic performed 23 cat and dog sterilization surgeries in three days,” Ms Quimby said.
“These surgeries spay and neuter, are the best and most effective humane population control for both the village’s cat and dog populations.
“By reducing the number of animals that can produce unwanted kittens and puppies, they are ensuring a safer village from diseases, dog bites, and reducing noise through a reduction in mating,” she said.
Dr Garcia was assisted by Sharral Prakash, one of their kennel hand and vet assistants.
“Tokoriki Island Resort initiated the clinic, organized the clinic with the villagers, and paid the highly subsidized cost of $25 per animal for their sterilization.
Each villager was then asked to donate $1 per to recognise its value.
Earlier, Animals Fiji had conducted travelling clinics outside of their normal five clinics (Nadi, Lautoka, Labasa, Savusavu and Taveuni); at Koropita (Lautoka area), Ovalau, Lavena Village (Taveuni), Qeleni Village (Taveuni), Naselesele Village (Taveuni), Navakawau Village (Taveuni), and Vuna Village (Taveuni).
