Rewa: 0

The Lautoka football team ended their Vodafone Premier League season in style when they walloped Rewa 4-0 at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

What happened: The sugar city side started strongly in the first 45 minutes as they were able to play entertaining football and pinned Rewa deep inside their territory.

Blues with the likes of veteran striker Osea Vakatalesau, Ilaitia Tuilau and Zibraaz Sahib continued on with the momentum. They pressured the Rewa defenders and it finally paid dividend in the 43rd minute when Sahib slotted in the opening goal.

Halftime: Rewa 0-1 Lautoka

The visitors upped the tempo in the second half as the Rewa defenders began to buckle. This allowed Mohammed Shameem to slam in the second goal. Rewa only had themselves to blame with their poor defence structure which was exploited by Sahib when he scored his second goal from a corner kick. With a handsome 3-0 lead, Lautoka kept to their game plan as Sekove Finau scored their final goal.

Big play: Lautoka strike force led by Vakatalesau applied immense pressure on the Rewa defence and the gaps began to open-up at the end of the first spell.

Comments: Lautoka coach Kamal Swamy said: “We want to end the season with a win, even though we did not have some of our experienced players but our replacement players gave their best.”

Rewa head coach Marika Rodu said: “This is just formality as we missed eleven regular players but our new boys stepped-up to the challenge. Now we’re looking at our combination for the IDC and the Pacific Cup.”
