Australia’s new High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes will begin his official duties in November this year.

According to the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs media website, Mr Feakes is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and recently served as a High Commissioner to Kenya.

Mr Feakes has served in Lebanon, Jordan, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea and the United States.

In Canberra Mr Feakes held a range of positions including Assistant Secretary, Policy Planning Branch and Assistant Secretary, Strategic Affairs Branch.

Mr Feakes holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from the University of New South Wales.

Outgoing High Commissioner Margaret Twomey’s term ends in November.

Mr Feakes begins his new term also in November.
