Kumar, Pillay Win Masters

Arun Kumar and Kushal Pillay won the Williams and Gosling Masters Pairs Championship title at the Nadi Sports and Social Club yesterday.
The duo defeated Semesa Naiseruvati/Jare Josaia 16-11 in the final after 18 ends.
“This is my second consecutive win. Last year I teamed up with Rajnesh Prasad, it is a good feeling to win again,” Kumar said.
“It was tough but we managed to stay undefeated throughout the competition. We had the determination from the beginning which took us through.”
In the semi-final they beat Dev Anand/Zainal Abid 21-13 and Shashi Pillay/Aseri Rika 18-10 in the quarter-final respectively.
They won $1000, the runners up collected $500 and losing semi-finalist collected $200 each.
Naiseruvati/Josaia beat Waisea Senibici/Jona Koroitamana 19-12 in the semi-final and stunned David Aitcheson/Rajnesh Prasad in the quarter-final 21-12.
Naiseruvati said, “It was a good tournament but our opponents played well in the final.”
Event co-ordinator Abdul Kalim thanked their sponsor Williams & Gosling.
“I applaud the participants who are fighting for a spot to make the 2018 Commonwealth Games,” said Kalim.
Meanwhile, Sheraton bowler Curtis Mar will defend his title at the Masters Singles Championship at the Lautoka Blowing Club this weekend.
