Bhatnagar Marks Centennial Of Bharat Sevashram Sangha

The Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Veena Bhatnagar, officiated at the Centennial celebration of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha at the Fiji Sevashram Sangha in Flagstaff, Suva yesterday.

The Bharat Sevashram Sangha is celebrating 100 years of its establishment and had organised special Sevashram Diwas for their celebration in the country.

Addressing those present at the gathering, Ms Bhatnagar explained the significance of serving the poor and the needy, as described in the scriptures, as it was the cornerstone for Swami Pranavananda, the founder of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, who had spoken of social justice a century ago, and established the Sangh for this purpose.

Ms Bhatnagar also said selfless service was one of the key principles the Bharat Sevashram Sangha was founded on.

“Fiji Sevashram Sangha has been doing Nar Narayan Sewa since the early 2000 and it has been providing to more than 80 families around Fiji with monthly food rations, which has been recognised by the Government of Fiji and thanked the donors and supporters for their selfless support to the Sangha and service to humanity,” Ms Bhatnagar said.

“Thus, about 40 recipient families from Suva, Navua, Nausori and Muaniveni had been invited to the Ashram for the first time.”

She told the hundreds of devotees present during the celebration that the Hindu scriptures emphasised the central importance of the family, sharing food and worshipping together.

She acknowledged the families present during this Centennial celebration, as she witnessed them praying together.

She said the work of the organisation in Fiji, especially during Cyclone Winston Rehabilitation, was praiseworthy.

On behalf of the Fijian Government, Ms Bhatnagar congratulated the Bharat Sevashram Sangha for completing 100 years and Fiji Sevashram for the 17 years of selfless service.
