Sanatan tournament set for Saturday

The nine-day Carpenters Finance Labasa Sanatan tournament will get underway on Saturday at Subrail Park.
Tournament chairman Mor Singh said yesterday there are 36 teams from all over Vanua Levu participating.
“From 27 teams last year to 36 this year is a big boost for us,” Singh said.
“The pool draws have been done over the weekend and we’ve decided to have eight pools.”
He said the matches start at 9am after a float procession with the teams marching through the main street of Labasa to Subrail Park. The official opening will be done by the Divisional Police Commander Northern Senior Superintendent Verani Nakauyaca.
Singh said last year’s tournament was won by Naodamu.
Meanwhile, Korotari Riverside Sanatan team manager Rahul Chandra said this would be their second year in the tournament.
“We’ve begun with our preparation as we aim to improve our standing from last year. Last year we lost in the pool games hence this year our aim is to reach the quarterfinals.
“The team consist mostly of high school students, farmers and unemployed youths. The reason of our participation is to bring together all youths in the Korotari community where we want to empower them and develop their sporting talents.”
