Six Lose Jobs In French Embassy

Six local staff in the French Embassy in Suva are losing their jobs.
Thursday will be their last day at work. This was confirmed by the embassy’s public affairs adviser, Moira Vilsoni-Raduva, who is one of the six support staff.
It is understood that the downsizing of the embassy is part of a global cost cutting exercise by the French because of financial constraints at home in Paris. Other French embassies are getting downsized.
Mrs Vilsoni-Raduva said the visa section would be operating until November. It is understood the two local officers in this department will be made redundant then.
Mrs Vilsoni-Raduva said that there was still no confirmation yet on whether the issuing of visa after November would be moved to Sydney, Manila or Port Vila.
