Resort Owner Pleads Not Guilty In Assault Case

Vatulele Island Resort owner Albert Bertini yesterday pleaded not guilty to one count of assault causing actual body harm before Suva Magistrate Court.

This was after prosecution confirmed to the Court that it would proceed with the charges against Bertini.

However, Defence Counsel Karl Jamnadas told Magistrate Warleen George that the complainant had made false accusations against his client.

The court heard that the complainant was not related to the accused and therefore it was a reconciling offence.

Mr Jamnadas told the court that Bertini will be seeking full indemnity cost from the complainant.

However, Magistrate George told the Counsel that this may not happen unless the accused was proven not guilty of his charge.

It is alleged that Bertini on September 22 had assaulted one Satish Mani in Lami causing him actual bodily harm.

Bertini will reappear in court on December 12.
