Fijian professional Sam Lee departed with the Team Fiji golfers to compete at the Vanuatu Open this weekend.

Lee pulled out of the Northern Territory Championship in Darwin which starts today due to the delay in his Australian visa.

“I did get my visa but I had already pulled out of the event in Darwin by that time. I had no time to catch the flight when I received the visa so will fly to Vanuatu same time with the amateurs from Fiji,” he said.

“It is unfortunate I don’t get to go.”

He was looking forward to playing in the qualifying tournament.

“I just have to take it as a positive. I will have to plan for other tournaments and qualifying.

“I have been working on my putting in the past week so I am excited to go and play. I will need to play well so that I can keep my Tour status next year.”

He is accompanied by Abid Hussein and Asish Chand and the Team Fiji junior team includes 22-year-old FNU student Ufemia Naisara who has been playing golf for the last 15 years.

Also in the team are Niko Rees, Holy Trinity Year eight student Wonu Hwang and Suva Grammar student Dawi Jee who are going to represent Fiji for the first time.

The team managers are Nigel Gounder and Rose Sue.

“This is the first time for the team to be part of the event as all will make their debut,” Gounder said.
