Prioritise Family Needs When Out Shopping: Seru

Thirty-nine year- old Laite Seru is a busy woman during the week.

However, when it comes to grocery shopping, she has the time to jot down a shopping list to suit her allocated budget.

We caught up with the civil servant at Suva’s New World Downtown supermarket.

Ms Seru who is from Lakeba Village of Saqani in Cakaudrove said before preparing a shopping list, it is important to draw up a budget. And in doing so, she said noting down the estimated prices was the key to saving.

“I usually do my shopping fortnightly and I find it important to compare my list, the price of products, keeping in mind to stay within my budget,” she said.

Ms Seru said that it is also important for her to cross check the price of products and select the most quality one at an affordable price.

“I always remember to go through the different sections in the supermarket and once I find the best quality product for a reasonable price, it automatically goes in my trolley.”

Ms Seru also highlighted that when she shopped, her family’s health was in her hands so her selection of products was important.

“I keep in mind that I’m shopping for my family so I always check the expiry dates and condition of everything I select,” she said.

Our shopper chooses to shop at New World Downtown in Suva because of the cleanliness of the supermarket and affordable prices on groceries sold.

“I do my shopping here because it is very clean and the presentation of the products makes it easy to locate the items we want.”

She added that the services from the staff were very reliable whenever she did her shopping.

Her advice to other shoppers was the importance of exercising their consumer rights on any item or issue they may face while shopping.
