Biker’s death: Taxi driver granted bail
A 25-year-old taxi driver charged for dangerous driving occasioning death has been granted bail by the Nasinu Magistrates Court yesterday.
Akash Vivek Chand appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza.
Police prosecutor Constable Setareki Mocevakaca served full phase disclosures and asked the court to impose strict bail conditions.
It is alleged that on August 26 at Nasinu, Chand drove a motor vehicle at Kings Road, Valelevu in a manner which was dangerous to the public and caused the death of Ashish Anil Jattan.
Chand was represented by Krisheel Chang.
Two sureties signed a surety bond of $500 each and his bail conditions are that he is not to offend, he is not to change his residential address and he is not to interfere with the prosecution witnesses.Chand has also been ordered not to apply for any traveling documents as a stop departure order has been imposed.
The case has been adjourned to September 15, for plea. JESSICA SAVIKE

Bail extended for alleged sorcerer
A man who is charged for witchcraft and sorcery had his bail extended by the Nasinu Magistrates Court yesterday.
The matter was called before Magistrate Sufia Hamza.
Between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009 at Nasinu, Nirjan Prasad is alleged to have practiced witchcraft at his residence.
It is also alleged that Prasad was paid money to do horoscopes so that he can brainwash a person and he had also done prayers and gave ashes to her.
Prasad had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The state was represented by Police Prosecutor Con stable Setareki Mocevakaca and Prasad was represented by Christine Kumar.
The case has been adjourned to November 17, to fix a hearing date.
